I'm here and I love fantasy, though I'm not near as well read in it as many people, since I only started reading it a few years ago. I'm reading "Rhapsody" by Elizabeth Haydon right now, on recommendation from a friend, and love it so far!
I've also really enjoyed Terry Goodkind's Sword of...
You know, I really love Melanie Rawn's writing. Everyone raves about her Exiles series, though I haven't read that. I LOVED her Dragon Prince and Dragon Star trilogies as well as a book she cowrote with Jennifer Roberson and Kate Elliott called "The Golden Key."
For sci-fi, I have really...
My favorite characters tend to come from the classics. I loved Jane Eyre and I also thought Jean Valjean from Les Miserables was an incredible character. And Sydney Carton from Tale of Two Cities. He was such a wretch, but so noble at the end.
Mainly, I check out all the books I read for leisure. I hate to spend money on something I really would end up not caring for much and I'm not a rereader, so unless a book totally wows me, I generally check out. Granted, there have been a few authors that I've gone out and started collecting...
Too many to count! Excluding all the books on my shelf, I keep making mental notes of "I've got to read that" every time I visit a forum like this or open up an email from the book reading yahoo group I'm on!
I had penpals from other countries when I was a little girl, but they never lasted long. I guess, because of lack of discipline on my part! Now, I have a few really good email pals that we'll sometimes drop a special little something in the postal mail here and there for each other.
I'm a school audiologist - I work with all the hearing impaired kids in about a 90 mile radius. Lots of driving! But after this year, I don't know. I'm not renewing my contract because I'm expecting and due in October or November, so I'm going to try to find some ways of earning a little...
How about "snarg?"
That's what the cat does when she rubs her nose and face against something. The funny thing is, when I married my husband used that word once, he knew EXACTLY what I was talking about!
I just completed "The Eyre Affair" by Jasper Fforde and just started the sequel, "Lost in a Good Book." I would definitely recommend these to others. EA has to be one of the best books I've read in a while (though I certainly enjoyed "Life of Pi" too) - it is so incredibly clever!
We've been discussing it on a book group - I think the reason it claims "This book will make you believe in God" is because the story requires a leap of faith. The people story is so much more plausible than the animal story and the fact that Martel doesn't reveal which is correct, but leaves...
I've recently become a big fan of Harlan Coben! His books are page turners and they have twists even up into the epilogue. I recommend him to just about everyone and I have yet to meet a person who has not loved his stuff!
I admit, I have judged book by their cover. *looks down sheepishly* I say mainly sci-fi and fantasy novels either grab me with their cover art or deter me. I know Tad Williams' books have fabulous art (I think all by Michael Whelan) and I started reading Kate Elliott's Jaran series because...
I'm just about to start "Life of Pi" and also will be reading "Space Travel" by Ben Bova, to aid me in writing this year's sci-fi Nanowrimo novel. I just finished "The Paris Option" by Robert Ludlum and Gayle Lynds. It was very good!
Heh heh...what, 7 months later, I finally get this book! I'm about to start it today - a reading yahoo group is discussing it. I'm looking forward to it and will share my feelings when I'm done!
Does anyone have any comments about her books? I just checked out a few because my best friend has been going on and on about how they're her favorite sci-fi series. I was just curious what other people thought.
I hadn't noticed it either - but these women kept talking about how he was somewhat sexist. *shrugs* His stories are fun, in my opinion. They're sensational - almost like Indiana Jones for the water.
I've read all the Kurt Austin books except the latest. I really enjoyed them. I liked...
