His attempt at "classy suicide" failed.
I read everything of his I could get my hands on. While his writing was entertaining, I read it more for the fact that it was a sympathetic and reasonable voice. His books made me feel better, even though there was a pessimistic tone.
So it goes.
I'm currently reading Fast Food Nation. So far it doesn't seem too sensationalist. The author actually has a lot of nice things to say about the creators of the major fast food restaurants. I'm not that far into, so the tone may change.
The last book I read was What is the What?, which...
This is basically how I feel about O'Reilly and the media. I can't watch him for more than two seconds. The interviews go nowhere, and it usually turns into him just gettins upset. His style is that of a hell and brimstone preacher, which I hate. Somewhere on youtube.com there is a clip of...
I think you can convey more info with written word, but when I needed to show my wife how much money was being spent at the bar, the spreadsheet did nothing. The pie graph however did the trick.
Looked 'em up.
Journey. Steve Perry.
Van Hagar :) , formerly Van Halen. Sammy Hagar.
I see now why I didn't have a clue on those two. ;) Not a big Journey or Hagar fan.
AC/DC. Angus Young, lead guitarist, played an SG.
Stone
Temple
Pilots
The Eagles. Not to be too much of a prick, but technically, wasn't it more like "they were her backup band." Maybe you have someone else in mind.
The Doors. Lizard King = Jim Morrison
The Rolling Stones...
Agreed. Thanks as well for your posts.
Edit
I also wanted to inquire about Dostoevsky. I'm curious; did he make anti-semitic remarks outside his literature? I'm familiar with the passage in McDuff's work, and I interpreted the passage to be comical, a poke at the fact that some people...
Okay. I got done with the book the other night. There's not a real good sense of resolution at the end. There is somewhat, but with any good book, it's all about the journey, not the destination, and I had to keep the tissue near by for the last forty pages, a real tear jerker.
The main...
I don't defend Mel Gibson because I find him an incredible artist or as a role model or anything out of the ordinary. I defend him as a human whose every word and behavior has been dissected by the public. I looked up some material on him, not much though, and he has plenty of views I disagree...
I'm almost done with the book now, and I want to add that for all its contrasts of refugee life with first world life, the book does offer how normal life was. The book paints a picture of growing up, going through puberty and learning the lessons of life and love in a refugee camp as being...
I can't judge him on something he said one time, while drunk, and then apologized later for. It would be different if he were sponsoring the "Did the holocaust happen?" conference in Iran, but he isn't. He was drunk, said something stupid, and apoligized for it.
My cousin's husband can't...
Ding ding ding. We have a weiner.
Another one?
A lifelong drug user, I died while in rehab, according to some with a smile on my face. I played with many musicians during a long career for which I was very grateful.
Three days prior to my death I recorded the song I'm most famous for. Ironic that I sang about having nothing to live for and nothing coming my way. Who am I?
I picked up this book on the way to LAX on Saturday and have been reading it religiously since then. It's the story of one of the Lost Boys of Sudan, a group of boys that lost their families and villages to confict in Sudan and were then brought to the US as refugees. The story not only...
