What do people think of James Kelman? I'm reading my first Kelman book now - The Good Times. Somebody (a well respected poster) from another MB that I am a member of rates Kelman really highly. I've not finished this book yet, but so far I don't think it's as good as I ever expected.
Things are going well so far. T&T put in a great performance yesterday, and created the best possible result for England who are looking very likley to go through to the quarters.
England's second half performance wasn't much on their first, but I felt that quite a bit of that was down to...
I suppose my fascination stems from a similar outlook on magazines as what you describe. Many magazines is full of predictable pap (in a very general sense of course), with masses of adverts.
It's a football magazine, but not the usual kind. It's interested in the 'politics' (if you can call it that) of football - all the behind the scenes stuff, mainly.
I'm not really obsessed, just a bit of an exaggeration about how I wait for the realease date.
For atmosphere and the whole day out, Oasis last summer at The City of Manchester Stadium was great. But in terms of the best gig as in performance, probably Embrace a few years back at Keele University. Small venue, great band warming up for their come-back.
A lot of their players play/have played in England, and so there's loadsa people cheering them on living in England too - me being one of them. I'd really love them to qualify, but I can't see it. Still, if they do, it'd be great for their country.
When Saturday Comes
Does anybody else read this?
I only discovered it about 18 months ago, and have been a obsessive about it's release date ever since - once a month just isn't good enough.
I've just realised that you are located in Glasgow and so more than likley making an observation regarding shirts in Scotland. I originally thought that you were implying that much of T&T's support (following them across the world for friendlies) was from Scottish folk. But I get it now
What gives you the impression that most of their supporters are in Scotland? In the friendlies that I've watched, the support has been pre-dominantly (well, almost exclusivley) black, which seems unlikley that many of those will be from Scotland considering the representation of people from...
Oops, forgot to post another question...
I'll re-post the one I posted earlier when there was a bit of a cross-post going on (how many 'posts' in that sentence??):
If you had a time machine that was able to travel both forwards and backwards, where would you want it to take you, and why?
Does Harry Potter count? I don't think that JKRowling is the greatest author in the world, but Harry Potter always keeps me up until late at night wondering what's going to happen next.
World Cup
I know that at this time of year, football can really get up the noses of many non-football fans. But this is a thread for those who are looking forward to the start of the World Cup in two days time.
So what do you reckon to England's chance in the tournament? Before the...
ALong the canal on my bike. It's really peaceful and guarentees pleasant folk along the way.
If you had a time machine that was able to travel both forwards and backwards, where would you want it to take you, and why?
This assessment is spot on. I read the first one on holiday, and it was lovely to read something so light-hearted but enoyable. Mma Ramotswe is a brilliant build character. I felt as though she was a character who was very believable. She is so niave, and I love how the author opens this up...
What did people think of this book?
A friend bought it for me, and I kept putting of reading it. But once i picked it up, I couldn't put it down for two days and was gutted when it was over.
It wasn't the best book in the world, but the plot makes it very difficult to put down. By the...
I recently started playing badminton on a weekly basis, and find it very enjoyable at the moment. The key is to play somebody who's slightly better than you; it keeps you interested. Not sure what others think, but I have found that since I've mentioned playing badminton to a few different...
I'm not sure what to make of this internet love thing. I met my better half on tinternet, although it's not quite as sad as it sounds. I spoke to him a bit through a football MB that I'm an active member of, with nothing too saucy - just talk football talk. That was, until we met once at a...
I like Dickens, in particular A Christmas Carol. His idealistic outlook on life is refreshing, although unrealistic. His 'bad' characters are intriguing and the most interesting despite him favouring his often overly 'good' characters.
