I enjoy reading fantasy and science fiction, but when I tell people I enjoy these genres, I usually get the look which says "Oh my God! Didnt you like grow out of that?" I don't understand the Cinderella treatment at all. Fantasy has some really thoughtful writing, so why the perception that...
Yeah, me too. I've sometimes left totally awesome books languishing on my shelf for like a month or so before I came back and finished it (and regretted leaving it for so long)
There are a lot of differences. It's like they have taken the skeleton of the book and constructed a whole new story out of it. the soul is there, but the body is different.
a friend raved about the book, so i'm thinking of reading it, but i would be glad for more reviews.
I was just going through Orson Scott Card's website and he had this to say about naming characters:
"I choose names that will either suggest by sound or meaning something about a character"
I guess this is true for most well-known authors
I recently finished Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy and while I am not too ecstatic about the books, I would like to read some more stuff in the same vein. I've already read the standard fantasy starters: Harry Potter, Inheritance cycle, a couple of the Earthsea novels. Any suggestions?
i really liked Golden Compass, all the right pace and everything, but found Subtle Knife really slow. in comparison, Amber Spyglass was way too crammed with stuff. i thought he should have split it into two books.
