I would vote against legislation allowing gay marriage.
The government does not have the power, constitutionally, to dictate who can and who cannot marry--gay, straight, polygamous, or otherwise. By granting the government the power to allow gay marriage, we are granting the government the...
Yes, I agree the school system stifles creativity, but more importantly, it stifles thinking in general. I disagree on one point though: I think it is deliberate.
Jane Lindskold's Wolf series (six books, begins with Through Wolf's Eyes). I think the second and third books are the best, though you should read them in order. The main plot of each book is pretty much finished after each book, so you can start and stop the series. Includes animals that can...
Hiya Pont and Peder! It's been a long time, and I've missed you both. :)
Oooh, I'll be looking forward to your thoughts on this one when you've finished. I still haven't decided what I'm going to do about it, but the TBR is long enough that I can afford to wait!
What is this one...
Guess I'm in the minority on this one, I thought it sucked.
The plot was stupid and felt very secondary. Like an afterthought they sort of hacked together from old ST plots and figured the "woah, awesome" effects would distract us viewers from the ridiculous plot holes and jumps. I especially...
And also a reference, I'd imagine, to To Hell and Back, an American film about Audie Murphy's WWII experiences, starring Audie Murphy as himself (he is the most decorated American soldier from WWII). The climax of the film is based on the actual event where Murphy climbed atop a burning tank on...
I thought they did an excellent job translating McCarthy's No Country for Old Men to film. Not only was the plot followed, but the feel of the book was carried over well. I hope The Road is done equally well.
Both children's movies, but Peter S. Beagle's The Last Unicorn and T. H. White's The...
I second this suggestion. Some good suggestions in this thread.
By "doomsday" do you mean kind of post-apocalyptic? If so, then I recommend I am Legend by Richard Matheson as well.
Dances with Smurfs? I think I'll pass. If the eye candy is really that great, then they'll make more movies using it. I'll wait until they make one with at least a somewhat palatable and maybe even somewhat original plot.
:stars5: I'm glad to hear you're liking them! It's kind of creepy, but if you want, check out this site and look at some of the pictures and listen to the music. There's a part in The Amber Spyglass that really conjured those images/sounds. Don't know if anyone else would agree, but I think it...
You summed up how I feel right there. :) One thing I do prefer though, is to wait until all of the books are published before reading them, especially if the books are not stand-alone.
