One time, I asked my then-boyfriend if he'd like it if I bought some sexy lingerie and he said, "what for? It'll just come off!". He was one of the most sensible guys I've known! :D
There's a tire place near my house that has some really good puns on their sign, they change it pretty often. I can't remember right now what the last one was, but I'll be going by there on Friday and I'll see what they have. They usually make me smile.
Could it be that Crichton knows he's blinding most of us with science? That we'll keep reading in spite of not understanding most of the tech stuff? Kind of like Joyce Carol Oates-not many people understand her but they keep reading and say she's terrific.
I guess if a book stinks, it's really warped, or pages are falling out, it's time to send it to the big library in the sky. My paperbacks get tossed when the pages fall out, the hardcovers get more consideration.
I think it's good practice. You think if you get published that every critic in the world is gonna love what you wrote? Stewart's doing people a favor by making them get a thicker skin. ;)
This is making me nostalgic. I used to look forward to Christmas for the books I would get-I remember once getting a three volume set in a slipcase of the Tell Me Why series by Arkady Leokum. I don't think my family saw me for days except at suppertime. :rolleyes:
