I've long supported nuclear energy---IF the plant is run by qualified people and not Homer Simpsons. I know that's unrealistic and there are always going to be human errors, so the indursty needs to keep the plants computer-controlled with heavy-duty firewalls to protect from hackers. I know...
Yes, some covers are a real turn-off. I've passed up books because I didn't like the cover art even if they weren't objectionable-I simply didn't like the art. Also, DJ turn-offs for me can be overly cute or amateurish, or even too much pink-to me, that screams "girly-girly book". :p
The old adage "never judge a book by its cover" is still true. I'm guilty of buying a few books because I liked the cover plusthe blurbs-I never buy books based only on the cover art. I've bought books that are terrible, and the cover is terrific. I don't think an author has any real input on...
I skim boring bits, like long descriptions of rooms that don't have much to do with the story, sex scenes (if I want to read porn, I'll go to the dirty magazine shop), and other "filler" that seem to have been thrown in to bulk up a book that otherwise would have run about 100 pages.
I'm not vain. I find that glasses are very handy for protection from things such as grapefruit spits; twirled spaghetti sauce; and sloppy kisses from the dog. :D
It's good that you don't harbor anger against your parents. I feel it's worse when parents don't give a damn whether their kids do well in school. Mine did, but I kind of wish they nudged me a little more to decide what I was going to be when I grew up. I think they were thinking that I'd go to...
That's the one where the doctor holds your eyelid open so you don't blink when he puts that machine right against your eyeball. Before mine started holding my eyelid open I would blink, and man, does that hurt.
I think I'd hesitate to get those glasses, since I can't see far (I keep forgetting if this is farsighted or nearsighted), I don't want to keep moving my head up and down to get the best view. And it's just one of my eyes that is affected, the other is normal. I also peer over the top of my...
I think it's good that parents pressure kids to be something or someone, as long as it doesn't place too much psychological pressure on a child. In my town, an Indian mother was murdered by her daughter, who was a physician, because the mother placed too much demand on the daughter, apparently...
If it had retailed for $34.95?? Just how much was it?
Nah, I wouldn't get it or even look through it. There are millions of books out there, and I can't read them all, and there might be some out there worth reading that didn't make the list. I like to be surprised when I find an obscure...
You'd get worse cuts then paper cuts, and it wouldn't be comfortable, or even smell like a book. There's nothing like the smell of a new book. I'll take that any day over a new-car smell. :)
shh! You'll cause Them to issue a warning label on books-"Frequent use may irreparably damage eyesight". We'll need a prescription to get into a library or bookstore. :D
My problem is I can't wear my glasses while reading, but when I look up from the book to the TV, I can't see the TV. I suppose I need bifocals, but I guess I'll just have to put my glasses on a chain around my neck, which I swore I would never do. Getting older is tough. :(
I can't read the large Print books comfortably either but I do appreciate a bit larger font in regular books, since my eyesight isn't what it used to be-and I don't have bifocals like abc! :D
