I've read all but The Distant Hours and though Riverton & Forgotten Garden were both excellent I thought The Secret Keeper was the best so far.
EDIT: I am about to finish The Distant Hours and now I think that THIS BOOK is the best of the lot. It seems that every time I finish a 'Morton book'...
I just read The murder of Roger Ackroyd for the first time about a month ago. It had a fantastic ending!
A mystery novel I recently read that I thought was (((GREAT))) was The Secret Keeper, by Kate Morton. Many twists at the end of this book which delighted me immensely. I have now read three...
I use the small Post-It notes. Not only can you bookmark the page but you can also stick it right next to the last paragraph you read since the note can be placed along the edge, as well as the top of the page.
I have the book but have not read it yet. Your opinion of the movie has spurred my interest in reading the book.
Don't know if you've seen it, but if you haven't, pick up the movie The Pirates Of Silicone Valley. This HBO movie tells how the whole thing started and features characterizations...
I would recommend Contact, by Carl Sagen. For an astrophysicist Sagan wrote a pretty good novel in my opinion. Your friend may be familiar with the movie by the same name but the book was different enough to make it worth her while to read - there are a few surprises not contained in the movie...
I think the whole thing is analogous to romantic seduction. It's true that Dracula (as one example of a vampire) often TOOK what he wanted without preamble (rape) but there is also the element of free will (succumbing to seduction) attached to the vampire legend as it has evolved in contemporary...
Now you're talking my language ... the werewolf is, and will forever be, my favorite horror theme. I agree with your nod to Silver Bullet. Favorite part of the movie was when the uncle was staying with the kids and the anticipation of the werewolf appearing was thick in the air. But my all-time...
Howdy reddog !!! Snowing like crazy here. What's it like where you are ? The advantage of being a bookaholic is that when you get snowed in you always have something to do ... so many books ... so much snow I can't get out of my driveway ... PRICELESS!!! *L*
Hi Medow337. I think yours is an excellent post because it addresses an important issue that comes up time and time again in this type of discussion - the dichotomy of 'book vs. movie'. As is often the case a book can present more information than a movie because every minute of screen time is...
At last count I had a little over 3,000 books. I have them divided in general categories such as : history, philosophy, art, general nonfiction, and of course, literature. I own about 100 International Collector's Library editions and I am always on the lookout for more.
As I've gotten older I have come to slow my reading pace down quite a bit. Maybe I'm just not in as much of a hurry as I used to be when I was younger. Also, Woody Allen's take on it really does seem to apply, at least in my case ... "I took the Evelyn Woods Reading Dynamics course to be able to...
Hi all !!! Looking forward to many interesting book discussions with you. I am from the midwest U.S.A. and I work for a university at which I work in developing research equipment. My book reading interests include the classics, nonfiction and contemporary literature. See you in the forum!
