I completely agree with the price and the DRM issues, but the back-lit screen is the reason that computer screens give you eye strain. These book readers are designed to simulate the printed page.
Besides, you don't read in the dark now. Why would you want to start?:D
A comment was made on another thread about younger people not reading anymore. So I thought we could get an idea by sampling the users on this forum.:)
From what I see in the Amazon reviews I still think it's a great device. I REALLY don't like the DRM or the proprietary e-book format. (I can get around that) But I will wait until the next generation and a price drop before I buy.

Mister B Gone - Clive Barker
Neverwhere - Neil Gaiman :)
Grave Peril - Jim Butcher :)
The Descent - Jeff Long :)
Fool Moon - Jim Butcher :)
Immortial Remains - Steve Niles and Jeff Mariotte :)
Dirty Job - Christopher Moore :)

I you haven't seen the Kindle, then check it out at Amazon.com. Its on their main page.
It uses wireless broadband to shop for...
I mostly buy books that have been recommended or by authors I like to read. But, I did just buy Mister B. Gone mainly for the books design. Its made to look very old and beat up, even all the pages look like they are yellowing on the edges. I used to work in the printing industry for many years...
