    jbooks - I'm with you on this, it was so dull! It's probably heresy to suggest that Stephen King's The Stand was far superior!

    Italo Calvino

    Calvino is one of the literary greats of modern times. If on a Winter's night is a great book, but you have to concentrate. Try Marcovaldo, that's outstanding.

    I read Bonfire of the Vanities and found it slow and bloated, I got about 300 pages through and gave up I'm afraid.

    March 2010 Reads

    Wow, you guys have way more time than me - or I read very slowly. Last month was The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood - 3/5. Probably very good at the time, but just a bit boring for my tastes and I prefer a bit more plot.

    A good used bookstore has to offer something more than your average high-street chain. Often this is collectible books, rare books or out of print items.     February 2010: Alice Sebold: The Lovely Bones

    My two cents: fairly unimaginative, over-used idea and hinged mainly on sadness. But I did 'enjoy' it overall. I read it whilst on holiday and had no dictionary to look up exactly what a sinkhole was, that threw me a bit.

    Crossword Puzzles

    Pen, because one came with my one-a-day crossword calendar. If I make a mistake I tell myself that I have to wait until the next day to try again!

    Saturday's Adventure

    I came across a beaver damn a few years back but saw no Beavers, only similar tracks - I think that confirms it. I thought at first it was a dog, but they look identical to the photo I took.
