'' Wear a mask. Stop killing people.'' A totally justified comment, though I know it will simply confirm many of these fanatics in their
fanaticism. Masks save lives. This is a fact. An absolute fact. Not ''political propaganda''. Not unscientific. Just the truth.
Those who oppose...
Your post expresses exactly how I feel. Those who rant about ''tyranny'' and, absurdly, ''Satanism'' are themselves
the tyrannical ones, in their denial of protection to their neighbors, their co-workers, and most horrifyingly, to
their loved ones. They are snatching protective masks from the...
I've had my two shots, luckily with no more than a sore arm for a couple of days. Infinitely
preferable to the pain and possible death from COVID which so many people have suffered.
Masks are uncomfortable. Social distancing is tedious and easy to forget. But in the name
of sanity, surely these...
I hope you had a great birthday, Cookie Princess. Only 29? You write interesting stuff for a mere child.
Colin, 80 years old last month. (October 18th. St. Luke's Day. If my parents had been religious I`d
have been called Luke.) Again, congratulations.
a) Bed. Sometimes I fall asleep, more often I check the time and realize it's time to get up.
Result, I'm O.K. until lunchtime, then I turn into a sleep-deprived zombie for the rest of
the day.
b) The bathroom. Nobody else has admitted to this. Come on, own up. Almost everybody...
Two questions. Does anybody else watch AS TIME GOES BY on BBC America?
This is a comedy series (not a sitcom, more a story with a lot of humor) starring
Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer. Second question, if you have watched it, do you
not agree that it is the finest series of its genre, bar...
I agree with Lucian about music being distracting. If the music is any good,
I start listening to it properly and can't focus on what I'm writing, but if the
music isn't anything special, why play it?
(This is just how it works for me. I've met many people who say that
music helps...
Right now (well, after I finish this post) I'm going to listen, for the nth. time to:
Elgar, ENIGMA VARIATIONS and Hamish Maccun, LAND OF THE MOUNTAIN AND THE FLOOD.
The Elgar is one of the best-known works in English music. The composer wrote a series of musical
sketches of his friends...
I came across this thread while I was browsing through some ancient ones in a mood of
nostalgia. Is anyone interested in reviving it. (Thus giving me more opportunities to pontificate and be...
Scary. (Since you're probably not supposed to reply to your own posts,
I'm adding this comment here).Isn't this thread in danger of getting
a bit morbid? So........Scary>>Spice (for those of you who don't
remember, Scary Spice was one of the Spice Girls, who were for a shortish...
I started wondering whether my post had been a bit too serious, but re-reading this thread in daylight
it looks as if some people did take the topic deadly seriously (e.g. drowning, the deaths of loved ones) while
other suggestions were surely tongue-in-cheek joking. (Does anybody really go in...
Muggers. Home invaders. The guy in the bar who is expressing his political opinions loudly
and aggressively and is just aching for someone to disagree, however moderately, so that
he can have, at least to his satisfaction, an excuse and opportunity to use his fists and his
boots on someone...
Andy, thanks for the suggestions for books on the fur trade. I'll see if the library has any
of them. Also Jones's North Atlantic Saga. I already have the books you recommended,
Harold The Last Anglo-Saxon King (Ian Walker) and Richard Fletcher's Blood Feud.
Both are good, but I particularly...
Andy,
welcome. You seem to share quite a few of my reading interests. (e.g. History, especially Medieval and
Early Modern, but I know very little about the fur trade. Any suggestions?) Historical Fiction,
the whole stretch, Roman to Victorian. Mythology. Vikings? Do you have/have you read...
