Now I have checked, Per Petterson lost 4 family members in a fire on the ferry called Scandinavian Star in 1990, his parents, his brother and a cusin.
He has said often in the interviews he has given, that he only writes about what he knows and have experienced in some way.
Here is an...
Apology accepted! :)
I think its very unfair as their style of writing is not the same and they write from different "places". I got the feeling that Banville wanted to impress and makes it a project almost to describe scenery etc., where with Petterson you sense the reason why Petterson...
I think it VERY unfair to compare Petterson with Banville!
Where Banville seems to try to impress the reader with his long sentences, Petterson is short and precise and never goes on and on!
As to why he needed to write a book and the feeling of missing the final click where...
A kind friend pointed me to this thread as he knows that I love Per Petterson and right now Im reading "I curse the river of time"
Petterson is a master of words, of getting so much information within a sentence without it getting boring or too crowded with descriptions etc. Maybe that goes...

She has already changed her way by moving away. And the fact that she is not pregnant yet is also a positive step in another direction.
I think you should support her and start to believe in her...

To me counterculture is a memoir, an author who doesnt set out to portait himself great or being the one who finds "the...
I havent been around for a while, so I was happy to read your thread that you are back home!
Sounds nice that nearly all the students are back, so things can get back to normal for you.

I have read Paul Auster´s latest book "Travels in the Scriptorium". It has been published here in Denmark before anywhere else, but it should get to the rest of the world in a couple of months.
Its great! Its not like any other Auster novel but then again nobody could write this kind of book...
I was at home watching tv. I couldnt really believe the breaking news! I think it wasnt untill they had repeated it a couple of time, that I got the message. Like many people, I thought it looked like a bad film.
My son was in the states with his father. The more news I saw the more scared I...
I would recommend for Norway, Linn Ullman "Before you sleep" or Jan Kjærstad "The Seducer". (they are more modern than Knud Hamsun).
Any book by Milan Kundera! But "Immortality" is great!
