I wouldn't say that because I like your answer. A mental image of snow is nearly as good as real snow :D
At work. And really shocked as a colleague yelled "the WTC is burning!". We didn't work very much after that, we just gathered around one pc and looked at this shocking pictures from NYC...
That's a tricky one. There are to much great movies to name only one. Maybe it's Little Lord Fauntleroy, I love this movie since I'm six years old and watch it every year at christmas time.
What is the first thing that comes in your mind when you hear the word "snow"?
The most expensive book would be "Ein überdimensionales Meerschwein frisst die Erde auf", a biography about a german punk band. It's not easy to translate this title, maybe "The earth will be eaten by an oversized guinea pig" will work. I paid 52 Euro for this book (about $ 67.45).
Only one favorite word? That's impossible! There are too much beautiful words in the world. I like the sound of dragonfly or daffodil for example. And I like schnickelfritz, even though I'm still not sure about the real meaning of this word. ;)
Well, I must admit I never read a book written by Grass even though I bought the "Danziger Trilogie" years ago. So I can not really discuss this matter because I don't know what he says in his books.
Besides reading I love writing (in German, of course :D). For exercise I play soccer and love it. I'm also a big fan of a German soccer team (Kaiserslautern) and support them on the weekends. It's a lot of fun.
Thanks people! :)
I don't think so. Gilmore Girls surly pays tribute to a lot of films, but the word "schnickelfritz" seems to be older. I asked a few people in Germany, and nobody knew something about this word. But I found more informations on the internet...
I am German and frankly, I don't care about Grass's past. Many people in Germany are very overreacting. I wonder what they would have do if they were in WW II. It's easy to jugde now, but at WW II people didn't have much of a choice. Grass took a big opportunity and I doubt that he realised what...
"Two years after my mother died, my father fell in love with a glamorous blonde Ukrainian divorcée."
A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian, Marina Lewycka
The second book I'm reading:
"No one who had ever seen Catherine Morland in her infancy would have supposed her born to be an heroine."
Northanger Abbey (Jane Austen)
(The first one is German so I can't post the first sentence ;))
I was at work. A colleague screamed "The WTC is burning!" I couldn't believe it and searched for news on the internet. We saw the pictures and we were shocked. None of us did work very much this day, even though we were in Germany, far far away. We just searched for news, looked at the pictures...
It's funny to learn something about a german word in an english-speaking forum. Thanks! I never heard of the song "schnitzelbank", maybe it's a very old one. It's funny, though. I guess "schnickelfritz" was a guy named Fritz Schnickel, Schnickel is a common surename in Germany. Maybe Fritz...
Have you ever heard of the Word "Schnickelfritz"? I just heard it in "Gilmore Girls" and it is without any doubt by german ancestry, but I don't know what this word means even though I'm German. In Germany we don't use this word (anymore?). I used google to find out more about this word and some...
I could watch over and over and over again:
When Harry met Sally
Notthing Hill
The Fabulous Destiny of Amelie Poulain
Little Lord Fauntleroy :D (The one with Rick Schroder and Sir Alec Guinness)
Pirates of the Caribbean
Pride and Prejudice (BBC-Series, not the movie)
Shrek I and II...
When I was a kid, I read
Lucy Maud Montgomery
Enid Blython
Erich Kästner (German author)
Michael Ende (German author)
Astrid Lindgren
Agatha Christie
Christiane Nöstlinger (Austrian author)
Angela Sommer-Bodenburg (German author)
and much more I don't remember. Lucy Maud...
