It seemed like such a cool forum when I joined. A good balance of intelligence mixed with fun. I respected certain posters that I could learn interesting things from (you all know who you are...), and put up with egotistical ones ( a couple of posters who insist "repeatedly" that they can...
If you've the Criterion version on DVD, there's a GREAT interview with George Lucas, where he gives a detailed technical assessment of the beautiful old imagery and filmmaking style! Lots of clips and stills from Kurosawa's films.
Hi Irene! What impressed me the most was the realism of the locale. YOUR HEART WAS IN IT! I think that's what made a success of Steinbeck's "Cannery Row". Keep it up! :)
I think it was "The Hidden Fortress". It was like the influence for Star Wars. Mifune is trying to get out of hostile territory with a princess and two bumbling peasant dudes. (droids..) Though he's actually cast as a general.
Actually, I was dozing in my hammock, and it was 15-18 feet over me, and I felt a small splash on my forehead!
Ingrates! I let them live in my trees, and this is the thanks I get!
I've read a lot of them, too- My favorites of his fiction works were the epics, such as "The Talisman", and "It". But my all time favorite of his books was "DANSE MACABRE", which sort of gave a brief history of the stories, books, and films, which directly influenced the man. Delicious writing...
Hi Muggle and Miss Shelf. :) The Walking Drum does sound like an interesting offering from L'Amour! Everyone thinks of him (rightly) as a writer of traditional westerns, but the man had RANGE! What do you think of his short stories? The only collection I have (and it's been some time since I...
Well last night, I went out with a friend, when I SHOULDN'T have, to a place where I SHOULDN'T have gone, with a few stripper girls, with whom I should NOT have gotten involved, drank more than I SHOULD have, engaged in an activity I SHOULDN'T have, and now have a wallet that's much thinner than...
Episode-Schmepisode! All you guys talking about episode 2, and episode 4 and prequels 3,4, and 5, more episodes and prequels, versus the original sequels...How the hell many are there, anyway?!
And Mr. Wabbit, have a few xanax, and tell us how you REALLY feel :p
I remember the original Star Wars at the theater in '78 or'79. From the first scene with the opening script rolling away into space, and then the underside of that great huge ship, with the John Williams score blasting away, it totally rocked my world! I liked the "The Empire Strikes Back"...
Halo, that must be EXTREMELY frustrating... You seem to have almost as bad of luck as I usually do!
As a last resort, maybe one of the forum members can scan you the missing pages...Then you could trim the scans, stuff 'em neatly in, where they belong. This way, your hardback volume will have...
Hi jenngorham! Apologies! I didn't remember his father either, so I looked up some stuff, and only found this-
"But (Tim)Burton was determined that Wonka - although weird - should be a believable character. The sweet maker's background is fleshed out far more than it is in the books, but this...
Hi smarin3! I don't know how wide your scope is, but if it's the BIG PICTURE, consider suicide in other eras and cultures, as in medieval Japan, where it's seen quite differently. In our culture, it's seen mainly as being quite gruesome and inconsiderate to the surviving family members, while in...
Moto, another good thread! Keep 'em coming. I received a special job status at work which requires random drug testing, so I must forego my few "hits" on friday and saturday nights. It sort of pisses me off that enjoying a relatively harmless pleasure can now cost me my livelihood, and thusly...
To update- there's some interesting news on www.timburtoncollective.com, concerning this release. Not only is this film to be faithful to the Roald Dahl original, as opposed to being a remake of the previous film, but the great Christopher Lee has been pressed into service, portraying Willy...
