I quite like lovecraft. His work has bags of atmopshere and scope. His mythos has been carried on by tons of writers, including ramsey campbell, august deraleath and brian lumley, so you might want to give them a try.

If you fancy some good pulp werewolf fiction you might want to try getting a copy of one of guy n smiths werewolf novels, the werewolf, return of the werewolf and son of the werewolf. They turn up on ebay every now and then.
I loved Creed by James Herbert. I didn't find it to be too scary though. At points I thought it was going to threaten it, but for me the scares never came. It's an entertaining novel none the less.
Guy N Smith was a pulp writer from the 70s/80s. He was quite a prolific horror writer. You can still pick up some of his novels on ebay. At one point he was one of the best selling writers in Poland.
Whatever happened to Guy N Smith? Does anyone remember the horror author who wrote over a hundred books, including the crab series of novels. Does anyone know what he's up to now, or if he's bringing any more novels out? Or how about Brian Aldiss, author of Frankenstein Unbound?
Herbert and Hutson
Favourite author for me has to be James Herbert followed closely by Shaun Hutson. Ok I'll admit there's a bit of a horror motif here, but I like what I like.
