I'd have a very hard time sticking with a man who didn't read novels, because it's so much fun talking about them! I was the one who got my husband hooked on Michael Chabon, and he persuaded me to read DFW's Infinite Jest--in fact, I read it twice, and so did he, and we are the only two people...
That is not a silly question. I found it to be quite interesting, and looked it up. I quote:
Trade edition: The edition of the book made available to and sold via the normal distribution and sales network, i.e., bookstores. The term is seldom used except when there exists also a Limited...
Oh, I love that book, too! Michael Chabon is awesome. I'm also glued to Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace.
oops--I was responding to Morry, about The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay
This thread reminds me that it's been years since I just browsed a store OR library at random! I used to do that.
I think the biggest enticer for me is a good review, especially if it's an author I've already enjoyed.
This IS a funny thread, I agree--and while I've been sitting here enjoying it and smiling, I remembered something: ever since hubby and I moved into this house--17 years ago--there's been a thick, paperback copy of Star Wars wedged between a pipe and the ceiling in our basement, where we have...
Some of my answers are already here, but I'd add Hemingway--The Sun Also Rises, and For Whom the Bell Tolls. There are memoirs that have gotten to me, too: The Only Girl in the Car by Kathy Dobie, The Concubine's Children by Denise Chong and Sickened by Julie Gregory. Some parts of Michael...
I can't believe how much press this has gotten. Since Dumbledore is an old man throughout the entire series, and there is much about his life that wasn't completely revealed, why would we expect to even know his sexual orientation? Ron's twin brothers never seem to have girlfriends, either...
Here, here, SFG75! If I think of how many books I've got on the shelf screaming to be read, I would be paralyzed with indecision and hopelessness. So I'm really trying to "be here now" and just enjoy whatever trip I'm taking at the time!
I don't have a routine, but I like to be reclining, almost lying down. My cat is allowed to join me, but only if she's not disruptive. Sometimes I eat popcorn while I read:) This was fun with Harry Potter books, like being at the movies.
Hmm, Sparkchaser's reading Nasty Bits. Is that a clue;)
I stole mine from Anne Bronte, who used the name Acton Bell as her pseudonym. She was also the least known of the three sisters, and that seems to suit me.
I read A Heart-breaking Work Of Staggering Genius and liked it and I'm so glad to hear that his other work is great! Thank you for the recommendations:)
