I've been part of a group that was organized through my church and that worked out well. We usually only had about 3 or 4 people show up to our meetings but it made it easier to find books we were all interested in reading.
My husband is getting his MBA right now and the school organized a...
So, back to GoodReads... I love the site! I like having all the information for the books right in one place along with reviews. I know other sites offer this as well, but most of my other friends are on GoodReads so I can see what they're reading, too. And I like all the options they give...
My most recent favorite along these lines is Eat Cake by Jeanne Ray. The characters are great and the family relationships are just fantastic because of the challenges they face and over come together. The whole thing is just delicious. She also wrote Step Ball Change which is about family...
I have his journal in my feed and I read it every couple of days. I love reading it, too, because it's both entertaining and magical. He also gives it a personal feel so you really do feel like you're reading his journal. Very cool.
Another site you can use for recommendations is GoodReads.com. They show member reviews and then groups and lists that have the book you're looking for. I've found some great recommendations through that site.
Last week I was irritated at computer viruses as I picked up a couple of nasty ones - and no I wasn't looking at anything inappropriate online! I just wanted to watch Heroes.
Today I'm irritated at my supervisor at work. Can't elaborate much since I share the office with her, but since I'm...
I'm so easily entertained that I usually laugh out loud while reading - makes my family look at me weird. But Hitchhiker's Guide made me laugh on every page. And A Tale of Two Cities had me giggling in some parts as well.
Honestly I'm having a hard time getting into it. I'm so busy with other things right now that the only way I can get through a book is if I'm so involved I can't put it down and it's just not that kind of book for me. But I do love the eccentricity and tone - I can see why it's considered a...
I just think it's great to find a guy who's willing to read these books. So many of my guy friends, including my husband, refuse to because it's geared toward female teens. But I think there is still value in her stories and her writing is entertaining even without all the romance.
And I...
I would suggest George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. I read the first few but some of the violence got to me - definitely mature reading. I've been thinking about picking them up again because the characters were awesome and I keep wondering what happens to them.
Tattered Cover Book Store in Denver is pretty famous. I grew up there an although I never went, I'm ashamed to say, my sister loves that place.
Generally amazon is my source of choice.
My two little brothers loved to read when they were 14, but they're both geeks (the adorable kind, of course) and got into biographies and chemistry...
Try approaching it from the movies first because usually the books are so much better. The first one that came to mind is Hitchhiker's Guide...
I just recently got into electronica and I've realized that there are a lot of different kinds. I had it up on Pandora one day and my husband was horrified, but I stuck to my guns and he backed off. I think there is something to like in all genres of music.
Earthsea series by Ursula Le Guin (can't believe no one mentioned it). I'm sure I'm forgetting some others, but I can always come back when I remember.
I saw the movie first and loved it, so I figured I would like the book. I was wrong - I hated the book because it seemed so shallow compared to the movie. This doesn't happen all that often, where the movie is better than the book, but I thought the actors did such a great job with the...
Thank you Sleepy - that was bothering me, too. I finished Breaking Dawn a few weeks ago and although it was weird in some parts I thought it was a very satisfying conclusion. I read The Host a couple months ago. It is her first 'adult' novel and I think it's fantastic - I definitely recommend...
I have an excel file for each year that lists the book, author, and the dates I start and finish the book. So I know what I've read and how long it took me. And I've recently discovered GoodReads.com but haven't been using it so much for tracking as for finding new things to read and keeping a...
