I usually have a few going at once. The downside to multireading is that it makes it easier to give up on one book in favor of another. After that happens, I never seem to get back to it.
OK, I'll contribute. Here's the part of my library that lives in the office:
And here's another small bookshelf and reading nook, also in the office:
There are also bookshelves in the dining room, living room, our daughter's room (they house her books) and one pie safe filled with...
Anywhere I can. But I prefer to read outside in a bench swing... providing the mosquitoes aren't to vicious. In inclement weather (raining mosquitoes included), I read in my office on an old and very uncomfortable love seat.
I also got the Children of Hurin for Christmas. I've read the Silmarillion several times, so the story line, names, places and geneologies were familiar to me. It made the book very enjoyable and I was able to finish it on one day. The illustrations were amazing. I'd love a larger version of...
He's one of my favorite authors (^_^)
My favorite book of Bryson's is A Walk in the Woods. I think I've read it about 15 times... Right now my husband and I are reading "Neither Here Nor There" outloud. I love Bryson's voice and writing style. Actually, I love his voice too. Try listening...
I read Candide in a college lit class and I really enjoyed it. We read Voltaire, Pope's Essay on Man (hated it) and various things by Rousseau (whom I greatly dislike). They're all so reactionary. It's easy to get lost in their squabble
All I could think of during the endless...
Has anyone else here read this book? I wasn't overfond of it myself.
It just seems so illogical at times. Over and over again, the main character, Chantal Prym, says that no good can come from evil. Yet, the crucifixion of Christ was an evil act right? Wasn’t Judas punished for his...
I use librarything to keep track of what I've read and haven't I tag everything I haven't read with "tbr." When I need to see what I have that wants reading, I select the tbr tag and poof, there they are.
I also have a binder, reading notebook and excel spreadsheet... ooh, I'm such a junkie...
My husband gave me a subscription to Isotope and 20$ worth of books at a library sale (which is quite a lot of books!) and I used a Border's gift card and Christmas money to buy:
Children of Hurin
The Book Thief
How to Read a Book
The Omnivores Dilemma
from amazon.com. My husband...
I love the idea of using post-its. I just finished rearranging my library and now the fiction is arranged around the date of publication and then by author. It's a bit different, but I like it.
My fiction books are arranged by author and nonfiction is arranged by author within subject. It's pretty much the same system you'd find at Barnes and Noble.
Well, actually, honestly we're reorganizing the office right now so mostly they're on the floor :p But when they were on shelves, they...
Oh, I love those ideas! I'll have to do them both with my daughter. I think she's to young to do the christmas mouse this year, but the book basket would work out great.
Thank you so much for sharing them!
The only christmas tradition of my childhood that inlvolved books was reading...
I read fairly quickly as far as fiction is concerned. Nonfiction, well then I'm a bit slower. I like to take notes and check things out along the way. If I read nonfiction as fast as I read fiction, I wouldn't remember much at the end of the book.
Of course, it also depends on the kind of...
I've read The World Without Us and I highly recommend it. At the very least, it's great fun to read the part about how quickly buildings decay after they're no longer maintained.
Edited to Add: I wish I'd seen this list before I went to the library sale, then I would have had a better idea of...
Oh how nice! How are the illustrations? I've read that the Alan Lee edition is the best of the three currently out. I almost bought it for my husband this year. I think I might have to get it for his birthday.
