Anybody see this?
clicky

I only saw the last 20 minutes. Quite pissed I missed most of it. I tought about posting this link in a number of different existing threads, but it could easily stand on it's own if anybody else saw this.

Wonderful look into some of the massive problems with education in America. Or at least what some people view as massive problems. Teachers Unions being the part I saw. A great contrasting look at what the teachers union has brought to the schooling of children vs. what happens when "charter" schools use some simple, basic, "real world, non-union" type practices to be the best teacher you can be, and the results they get. If anybody saw this I'd love to know what you think.

I havent watched the show and i dont know much about the american school system, but i have some experience teaching.

From the article they pin every problem with education solely on the teacher/school. But in the real world the quality of the education is more dependent on the kids going to the school than the teachers. There is a huge difference teaching a class with interested students that want to learn, and a class with "bored" students. You cannot force people to learn. The teacher has very few options to deal with "problem-students" that disrupt the class like the one described in the article that was dancing infront of his teacher. Good teachers can help good students learn better, but there is no way a teacher can force-feed knowledge into people.

A good school is good because it has good students, that are interested in learning. Its not the teachers sole responsibility to get the students to behave and pay attention to their schoolwork.
