28 Days Later

I heard from a friend that the zombie film 28 Days Later was based on a book/novel. I've searched around and the closest I could come up with was a book written for the movie; a sort of script, but not what I was hoping for. So, I was wondering if it was, in fact, based on a book, and if it was, what is the title and auther of it? Any information would help.

dont think its based in any book, it looks to me like they took bit of several older films and books.
i feel there its a lot of influence from romero's movies, the stand (book by stephen king), and resident evil (the videogame).

It's like the British Version of Dawn of the Dead. I like it very much but would have liked a leading actor with a little bit more sex appeal!!!
By the way did anyone see Dawn of the Dead? 'Cause it was so unbelieveably funny!!!!
