A Tale of Two Cities ... Abridged?

I was reading A Tale of Two Cities and comparing my copy with a copy posted by Project Gutenberg and it seems that my copy is not complete.

For example (spoiler)
The end of Chapter XII for instance finds Monsiur the Marquis dead with a knife in his heart.
This whole section is missing completly from my copy! Two copies at my local library are missing the same sections and neither of them said anything about being abridged.

I don't know what I'm going to do with my copy but I think the trash bin just might figure in there somewhere.

Since I don't like reading for extended periods on the computer, then I'm going to have to give up on this until a complete copy can be found. Has anybody had better luck finding a complete copy?

I haven't got far enough in my copy to know if it is complete yet. I hope so. It is an old hardback second hand copy I found in a bookshop.

I bought a copy of Our Mutual Friends a few years ago and the last 30 or so pages from that were missing. Needless to say I was not too happy about that. Luckily it was a cheap copy. A misprint of some sort. Just pages that weren't there.

Good luck in your search.

Thanks, Roger53. I suppose the worse thing about it is that I'll have to shop at the bookstore since the publishers don't seem to want to say whether or not the book has been shortened.
