A utopia where everyone is blind..

I read this book a few years ago, and it is set on a planet, there is a utopia and everyone is genetically engineered to be blind, it is pretty much like The Giver, and the main character finds a way to see, and the book ends with him escaping. I'm trying to find it so i can read it again and read the other books in the series. sorry if i didnt give much detail, I read this book like in middle school, and im 19, so I really cant remember anything else about it.

I believe the book is Truesight by David Stahler Jr. It was published in 2004 and is now joined with two other books in the series.
