That came as a suprise,just pick this in a segond-hand bookshop and i really like it.I tried to get rest of the series but it wasn't available in France,it isn't even transalted.It's classic scifi ,space colony but well writen and good
Have any of you read some?

Yes, I certainly have. In fact I just finished the series about five days ago. I can tell you this without spoiling anything. Each book is very good and different from each other. It has a pioneering spirit that I really liked. Anything more I can tell you just say so. I would hate to give anything anyway you did not want to know.

I was just thinking of the Gillis caractere in the first book,the one waken accidentaly from hybernation.I loved this part of the book,really original.And him becoming some sort of icon of the colony.I look forward to reading the rest,thanks for the reply Joderu95

I liked that part a lot too. It made me wonder if I have the personality type that could endure such a thing. I have only gotten into this kind of "hard sci-fi" in the last few years and here are some other good authors that try to stick to the laws of physics as best they can:

Stephen Baxter
Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle
Vernor Vinge

Larry Niven lucifer's hammer,fleet of worlds,gripping hand.....?

Vernor Vinge deepness in the sky,fire upon the deep,raimbow end...?

Stephen Baxter time,space egg,origin.....?

Raft by Baxter is a tie with The Mote in God's Eye by Niven & Pournelle both just slightly ahead of A Fire Upon the Deep by Vinge by Vinge. They all have some really great aliens in them.

Lucifer's Hammer was really good too. The global catastrophic story line is one I never seem to get tired of.
