Hi, im new to this forum, but we have recently had some wonderful news in my family, my sister has been chosen to participate in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards! I thought id come here and share it with you guys. You can go here

to amazon.com, in the search box type in Amazon Breakthrough Awards, youll see a link for mytery, thriller and suspense, after that go to page 5, and its at the very bottom, "declaration of Independence: An Addison Holmes Novel" to read the first 5,000 words of her novel, then you can vote on it and post your review! Everybody that participates is much appreciated! Here is a brief description....

Leah Hodge Speaks About Declaration of Independence: An Addison Holmes Novel - Official ABNA Entrant:

High school history teacher Addison Holmes needs another job if she wants to buy her dream house before her fiance stealing archenemy buys it out from under her. After a stint as a stripper and an almost employee of America's favorite one-stop-shopping experience. The Handy-Mart, ex-cop best friend, Kate McClean, takes pity on Addison and gives her a few surveillance jobs to help out around her popular private detective agency. Of course, Addison gets into more trouble than she can imagine. When the small town of Pine Cove, Texas comes under fire for lethal drugs spreading through its close knit high school, it's up to Addison to find out where they're coming from. Between that and dodging sexy cop Nick Dempsey's advances, Addison's plate is more than full. But Addison had better watch sticking her nose into other people's business if she wants to solve the case and stay alive.

I thought id come here and share it with you guys.

Why would you share it with us? We don't know her.

But what the hell, I read it, and since I can't post reviews to the US Amazon, by way of never having bought anything from them, I can't post a review. But I will say that if the narrator wasn't so self-obsessed the story may actually get around to starting. It doesn't grab at all. The reference to Katie Holmes will no doubt date it. And the apostrophe is in the wrong place on "teacher's lounge" [sic].

At the same time, all that talk of cute guys, ice cream sundaes, and shopping make me think I'm not the target audience anyway.

The one thing that confuses me is that you say your sister has been "chosen to participate" - that doesn't make sense. Surely she chose to participate herself by sending off the manuscript to Amazon.

Truth be told, though, you are probably doing whatever chance she has of winning no good by publicising it.

Its Chick Lit!

I shared it because i wanted to get the word out. She's working on getting published, she would be a breakthrough artist with this. It is however "chick lit" as they say. For the ones who like suspense and romance novels, its a great book. I have read the entire manuscript. Yes, she did send it in, but she was still chosen to be put in the running. She is currently in the top 10. I am sorry you didnt like it, but like you said, you arent exactly the target audience here either. :)
