An Irish kid fighting in WWI?

About a year ago I read a novel about an Irish kid fighting in WW1. I remember the cover being red and black (I think).
The story was fairly recent. I think it was written within the last 5 years. From what I can remember there were, in no particular order :

A military boxing scene
The recurring issues of unrest in Ireland at that time
poison gas attacks
lots of trench warfare
an ill fated romance
and if I remember correctly a sad ending

Anyhow, I liked the book and would like to read more by the author. I can;t remember the author's name or the title of the book.

Thanks! I found it

Thanks for the resources. I used one of the links and found it right away. It was "A Long, Long Way" by Sebastian Barry.
