Anahorish

An intriguing name. Maybe it refers to the Anahorish Public School (with Seamus Heaney connections) or does it refer to the Anahorish Covenstead which meets every third Tuesday in a bar in New South Wales (check out the Teen Pagan links page).
So welcome to the MB Miss Anahorish and tell me what the name means.

Can you say Hakim's razor, boys and girls?

Maybe it's as simple as a combination of her first name and personality.

It's a philosophical maxim by the famous philosopher Occam :) which basically ( VERY SIMPLIFIED ) says that the answer with the least number of suppositions and assumptions is normally the correct answer.

Example.

Question: Why are all these apples under the tree apple tree?

Answer 1: They were carried here by some men because those men probably had a break time and they wanted to eat apples under this tree but there were probably too many apples so therefore there are some left.

Answer 2: they feel from the tree.

Obviously, answer 2 is the correct answer.

As for the other blokes razor... have no idea :D

Hello,

Well I was struggling to think of a good name for myself. :p

We studied Seamus Heaney in Sixth Form and I always liked his poem Anahorish and the way it's pronounced. From what I remember it means "place of clear water", but my memory is a little fuzzy so I could be wrong. Or my English teacher could have been wrong. :D

So that's it. Nothing to do with schools or whatnot!

And thanks for the welcome :)

Thanks very much, Wabbit! I'm so glad you explained it very simplified!! :D Philosophy, eh? No wonder I'd never heard of it. But what's a razor got to do with it? Why isn't it called Occam's maxim? Or is a razor a philosophical term for a maxim?! Anyway, his maxim just sounds like common sense to me! :p (As is very obvious, I have never studied philosophy.)

No actually. I'm a boy and I only luuurrrrrve girls. That's real girls. Not internetgirls who might be boys or bots. Or boys/bots with ginger curly hair which would be much worse.

I presume that this is adressed at me, even though you forgot to "quote", you crazy little male googlespider.
