Hello everyone,
Could I have any suggestions on a good book to read?

Something along the lines of Nicholas Sparks "The Notebook". Something not too spiffed up with sex. Something about young love, first love, based on 1900's to 1950's, a sappy love story, wealthy girl in love with boy from the wrong side of the tracks. Something based on any of the things above!!

I would really appreciate it, Thank you in advance!

Candice

you might try the time traveller's wife by audrey niffenegger. don't let the time travelling bit throw you, it is not at all sci fi. it is a really really great love story and although it does have some sex, not of the throbbing what not, variety. all i can say is take a chance on this book, it is one of my favourites.

Cross Stitch by Diana Gabaldon

Flowers in the Attic by Virginia Andrews

you thought flowers in the attic was romantic? isn't the "romance" a bit incestous and all the food deprivation and abuse, romance, really?

I agree that the themes of the book are quite dark, but if you read that book with the following three, there is romance and love. Sure, incest is not a thing that is romantic, but the love between the brother and sister is amazing as you follow it through both of their lives.

Admittedly, not a romance novel as conventionally defined, but I adored this book when I first read it and still do.

they end up marrying. i don't know if that is amazing or not. i read them all in junior high when they were so popular for their shock value and you didn't want your mother to catch you reading them.

I was not shocked by these books. I read them about five years ago for the first time.

When I say I found the love amazing, I meant in a genuine, heartbreaking way, not for the shock factor.

reading about a young girls first sexual experiance with her brother was pretty shocking to me....at 12.

Different perspectives then. I was in uni by the time I read them, and far from innocent. Themes of incest had been touched on before in books that I'd tried, so it wasn't as sit-up-and-stare surprising as it would have been to a 12 year old girl.

Anyway, we've digressed into our differing views on a particular book.

I still stand by my other suggestion, and maybe Flowers in the Attic could be kept as an interesting read, rather than as a straight up romance.

I'd also like to add as a suggestion The Pursuit of Happiness by Douglas Kennedy, which I thought was sublime.

just for the record, i read the books when i was 13 adn 14!! i still love them, they have something romantic and dark and totally depressing with a shine of light!!

anyway, i would suggest the other books from nicolas sparks, my favorite is WALK TO REMEMBER and if you want something funny with a little bit sex in it, try anything from SUSAN ELIZABETH PHILIPPS! or Jennifer Crusie!!
bye
and by the way, Welcome to the forum!!
