anyone remember this 1980s library video series?

I was a total nerd in grade school and took Library Science as a voluntary elective. To learn all about how a library is used/useful we watched a video series about a post-apocalytic Earth:
Aliens invade the planet and destroyed pretty much everything to reduce humans to near language-less savages. Then some kids find an overgrown library one day and start to learn all kinds of stuff about knowledge, technology, and whatnot. They are given clues by someone/something (can't remember) that teach them how to combat and eventually overcome the aliens.
The only specifics I can remember are:
1. Some characters were dressed like the Rebel Alliance pilots from Star Wars - all orange jumpsuits and stuff.
2. A clue during one episode asked what was the animal King Lear would give up his kingdom for - apparently horses had gone the way of the dodo after the aliens landed. Also, I think I remember it rhyming.
3. At one point (maybe the climax?) the kids learned about ruby lasers and built one, they shot it at some alien structure.

Anyone remember the title? Or anything more about it? I have googled so many combos of words and come up empty. I also searched google answers but found nothing. Though I surely could have missed it.

Thanks in advance!

Not a very good clue then. It was King Richard III that said "A horse! A horse! My kingdom for a horse!"
