Atonement

I saw Atonement very recently, and thought it visually stunning, moving and haunting. I haven't read the book, and wondered if,as is usually the case, the book is far better? The movie won best film at The Golden Globes!
The beach scenes were filmes just down the road from at Redcar!

I agree the film was visually stunning. I really didn't think the film was good enough to win a Golden Globe because the acting wasn't that great. I did think the cinematography was excellent. The way the whole movie was shot (especially the scene at Dunkirk beach) was eye-opening.

I personally have a problem with comparing the book to the movie because they are presented in two very different contexts. I'm glad that I read the book before watching the film. In the movie there were moments when the character was silent and if you've read the book, you would know what they were thinking.

I've seen the movie and then ordered the book but haven't read it yet. I was very impressed with the visual/cinematography as well and hope it helps visualize the action when I read the book in a few months. The scale of the Dunkirk rescue mission was massive and I'm glad have the movie to 'fall back on'.

Agreed on the film visuals, amazing, however the characters roles in the film weren't really big enough to warrent oscars, i did thnk mcavoy did a very good job though, and the poppy and fountain scenes were very well directed.
