He's 14, she's 23. They (she) shouldn't have done it, but worse things have happened.

Just for a moment, imagine it's a male teacher and a 14 year old girl. Puts a different perspective on it, doesn't it?

Why should a 14 year old boy be celebrated for being victimized by an older predatory female, no matter what she looks like?
 
Good point you got there, but I'll stick to mine - worse things happen on a daily basis. It was consensual. Don't get me wrong, she should not have done it, and she should be fired for it, but that's it. Case closed, movin' on.

Get over the sexual abuse of children by their school teachers? And as for it being consensual, he's a 14 year old boy. He's hardly in a position to make informed decisions.

I don't know if she did it or not, but for the sake of discussion let's assume she did. You want people to 'get over' the fact that a teacher, put into a position of trust and power, abused a child in her care?

Maybe worse things have happened, but that's completely irrelevant and a nonsense argument. Murder is worse than assault, does that mean no one should ever get upset when they're assaulted? Does that mean that the attackers should be left to get on with it? After all, there are murderers and rapists out there, no point in getting all worked up over a harmless little mugger, is there?

Ashlea's right. You would not be saying the same thing if it was a male teacher and a 14 year old girl.
 
Was he abused? Was he backed into a corner, forced to take his clothes off, raped?

Or was he a 14 year old horny kid with the hots for his 23 year old teacher. He probably fantasised about this, and look! it actually happened. I don't think he was complaining.

But, I must add, I have read almost nothing about this case - so it could be very possible that he was forced and abused. In that case you all are very right. I'm just talking from the viewpoint of a 14 year old in general.

I agree with Martin because the boy could have said "No" if she was forcing him.

Most children at age 14 want sex and that... They arnt wise enough to make descissions.
 
Well, not really, if she was forcing him, he couldn't have said 'no'.

But I honestly don't think she had to resort to force - this is a 14 year old boy we're talking about. His dream came true. He enjoyed it just as much as she did.

That said, she shouldn't have doe it. She's the adult of the two, she had to have been the wisest.

Which is exactly why it counts as abuse. He wasn't wise enough to make that decision. He had unprotected sex with a married woman. These aren't the actions of an intelligent and informed individual. She abused a position of power. The law is there to protect children from sexual predators and that's exactly what she is. A 14 year old boy is a very easy conquest for a 23 year old woman.

She was an attractive woman, so people are saying he's a lucky kid. There's a huge double standard involved in this sort of thinking.
 
Agreed. Very true, and good arguments, Litany.

However, this is not about having protected or unprotected sex. That's besides the point - it's always stupid to have unprotected sex, no matter the situation.

The point is this. Sorry, my point is this. The victim here is the kid. So, lets look at the kid. Will he be scarred for life? I honestly do not think so. In fact, I think all this media attention is making more of an impression on him than the actual act.

What kind of 23 year old woman would get kicks out of seducing 14 year olds. So very strange and wrong. I'm 21 and wouldn't get any pleasure from seducing a 19 year old, let alone a 14 year old. 40 year old men however... totally different ball game :D

I was thinking that. I mean, I know we tell them that size doesn't matter, but seriously, a 14 year old boy? And he doesn't even have experience on his side. The reports all said she wanted to do it because it was illegal, but even so. If that's true then I think she may be in need of some intense therapy. It may all turn out to be a big fib on the part of the child. I certainly hope so.
 
:/ Because it was illegal? I'm quite disturbed. I don't know anything about the procedures involved when people wish to teach, but it'd be nice if they could devise some kind of test to weed out people like that.

Martin, you know, thinking about it I'm not so sure that the child won't be scarred for life. Early relations with the opposite sex determine (to some degree) future relations with the opposite sex. It's a shame if his future with women has started in this manner, whether anything actually happened between them or not, as that could impact quite negatively on the way he thinks about and treats women for the rest of his life.
