Big fan of Stephen Kings Dramas, would like to know similar authors/books

Most know him as a horror writer, but books such as different seasons (the body and rita hayworth and shawshank redemption) as well as the green mile are my most favorite books of all time. I'm wondering if anyone could suggest a good book similar to how heartfelt these were to me. I would appreciate it. Thanks!
 
You could try The Traveling Vampire Show by Richard Laymon. It's horror, yes, but Laymon does take great pains to develop the characters and their friendships. That was probably the book's strongest point.
 
Definitely Robert McCammon! Try Boy's Life, Swan Song, or Gone South and then check them all out, he's great!
