Book about a Vampire

I read a series back in high school (92-95) that I have been thinking about lately. Unfortuntly I don't remember the name of the book or who wrote it. It was about a female vampire that lived in the U.S. She had developed a tollerance to sunlight. Cured a boy, that she becomes close friend with, of a disease. She was running from some goverment agency, and was living in Las Vegas at the time she was caught. This is kinda driving me nuts, so any help is appreciated.

To me it sounds like Christopher Pike's Last Vampire series. Although I've only read books 3-5 out of the 6 so I can't be too sure on all the details.
