Book hunting in Britain

Ran across this great read in Salon. I am so jealous of those of you in Britain. This editor wrote of some of the most wonderful places to find books that only us Americans can dream about with one or two exceptions.:( Have any of you been to these places mentioned in the article? If so, please share details.

Bernard J. Shapero Rare used books

Tindley and Chapman

BertramRota

Peter Ellis-bookseller

Maggs Bros. Rare books

I would give my arm and leg to just browse through even one of these places. Seeing giant shelves of books just gets me drooling...nothing like good book porn to get the blood pumping.:p :)

This article sent me searching for other books by Nicholas A. Basbanes. I think I could lose myself in some of these.

Abecedrian's booklust is kind of like that of Basbanes, you definitely should check it out.

We sound like a buncha dopers tipping eachother off as to where to get our next fix;)

I'd love to go book hunting in Britain too. If Wheel of Fortune ever starts giving away trips like that, I'd consider trying to be a contestant:D

No need to travel so far. There are very few places that beat the bookstores we have in Charlottesville, home of the Festival of the Book and also home to many, many, authors.

I know of a couple of those, but I haven't gone in them.

London is great for books. It seems to have an endless supply of book shops. London is stuffed with enormous book shops of every time. There dotted everywhere are quaint little shops that have existed for hundreds of years. They normally specialize, examples are: Navy history, womens lit, antiquarian, children's books, first editions, and so on. Then there are many independent book shops. There is a great one in Charing Cross Road that sells new books at half price or lower! Then there are many used book shops... lovely :D
