Book store job

Hello all bibliophiles!

Let me preface my first post by saying that I have long desired for a site like this and only recently did I take the genius step of googling "online book forum" and so here I am. First of all, this is a fantastic site and I have already enjoyed reading people's lists, opinions, and reviews of some of my favorite books and some that I hope to read in the near future.

My main question in this first post is to ask if anyone currently has a job in a bookstore. I'm looking into this as my first ever job (I'm 16) and was wondering what your position is, what it pays, and how (or if) you like it. The three main book stores in my area that I'm probably going to apply at in the near future are Borders, Waldenbooks, and Barnes and Noble. I wish there was some local alternative besides the soon to be out of business "Erie Book Store", I live in Erie, PA BTW, but it appears I'm stuck with the major chains.

Any insight or advice in response to my question will be greatly appreciated!

Happy Reading.

Welcome to TBF!. While I have never worked at a bookstore, you are quite blessed to have some good ones around you. You are young enough that you could work for all three before possibly starting your own later in life(after the college business degree of course:D ) I think it would be a great way to gain some experience, as well as to get you acquainted with the practical "real world" side of this passion we share known as books. Best of luck to you.:)
