Books like songs!

Hi, i'm a newbie to this site, and also to the big wide world of books. I've read some classics, but not a whole lot. I'm really into music, and the ambigous sometimes surrreal lyrics. Just wondering if anyone knows any books or authors that write in such a memory. I guess what i mean is a form of Poetry: Dylan, Ryan Adams, mould. Something which is a bit different and unique. Being relatively new to the medium im really interested in reading things that flow nicely, and make you think without making everything blatant.

Any help would be ace.

hey mate, thanks for getting back to me. Yea, Ryan is amazing. Love all his stuff, prob Gold and Cold Roses are my fav albums.
Looking for stuff which is like poetry, but actual a novel. Stream of consciousness is exactly what i mean. Do you know any good stuff like that?

Hmmm... one I read recently which sort of sounds like it might be what you're looking for is The Stream of Life by Clarice Lispector.

Another, which is more of a traditional novel but still rocks to high heaven, is The Fortress of Solitude by Jonathan Lethem.
