Books on living abroad

I've been looking for some good books describing a person's life in a foreign country - strictly fiction, no guides and nothing in the style of "How we bought a villa in Tuscany". I'd like something slightly disturbing (a great example: The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles although this one is more about travelling), dealing with feelings you only get being far from home. I'm also wondering if there's anything on/by people "on the move" i.e. people that have lived in many different countries. Thanks.

 slightly disturbing??? If that's your idea of slightly disturbing, here are a couple of suggestions that probably won't disturb you at all:
When We Were Orphans by Kazuo Ishiguro
Ghostwritten by David Mitchell
Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys
Praisesong for the Widow by Paule Marshall

The Sheltering Sky

I know it's much more than just SLIGHTLY disturbing but it was the best example I could think of....an exceptional book, not for the sensitive though.

I also thought of:
Graham Greene (too many books to name)
W. Somerset Maugham (The Moon and Sixpence, The Razor's Edge, Ashenden)
