Books you love to hate

Hilarity

This discussion is for books that are just so bad that they're awesome or that you just can't stop yourself from reading them. I know as an editor I've come across a few of these, and of course some of the ones that just plain suck, but this discussion is on the books that are either so incredibly bad or so masterfully written that you love to hate them.

Twilight is a popular "love to hate" book as it combines the incredible lack of a story with a truly laughable writing style. Throw in some sparkly vampires and bam, you have a book that many people love to hate. I personally just flat out hate it. I'm just using that as an example.

My favorite genre personally that I love to hate is anything in the adult section. There you find some of the most hilarious titles. I once found a book about a pregnant heroine and a NASCAR driver. It was so incredibly bad that I ended up buying it anyway just to laugh at it at home. You can't prove I did anything else, so there.

What about you all? Anything you love to hate?

I find the phrase 'love to hate' really odd. It suggests that you relish and enjoy spending time dissing something that you hate - which is a completely bonkers notion. Why devote energy to something you don't like? I hate something...I ignore it. Better just to say, what books do you hate?

Pastel-covered girl books.
Army-type brouhaha books.
Misery memoirs.
Jeremy Clarkson.

Totally these types of book. In fact I hate the Clarkson books so much that you can add to that list any of the books surrounding a Clarkson title either on the shelves or display table in the bookstore.

I hate the millions of biographies I see appearing in the bookstore of people who have maybe been on television once in their lives and then deem themselves and their lives so interesting that everybody should read about them. I don't want to read about some random cook from a cookery programme or girls who have had their boobs done twice every year or any other T.V. presenters. I simply don't care.

I don't know about that. Sometimes it's fun to just verbally tear apart a book (or anything else) that causes strong dislike. Personally speaking, I only "love to hate" YA paranormal romance. I couldn't care less about all the other books mentioned here.

ETA: I lied. I forgot about Tucker Max and similar writers.

Simple. I read some of his writing and didn't find it funny. And personality-wise, he comes across as someone I really wouldn't want to spend too much time around.

I know what you mean by love to hate. I most definitely hated The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown (hyped and way overrated), The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards (very unlikeable characters whom I just didn't care about) and The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski (beautiful writing, but he destroyed the story with a perfectly horrible ending.)
