Calendars

I just bought my 2006 calendar, it's "Outhouses" with photos of outhouses. I like calendars with off-the-wall themes. My 2005 calendar was "Weird U.S.", which turned out to be a disappointment. I wanted bizarre, and I got run-of-the-mill strange. The only saving grace is it names holidays I never heard of (in other countries).

Do you have a calendar to hang on the wall, or a desk calendar-a plain one or tear off a page a day? What themes do you like? Do you buy your calendars or prefer to use the free ones sent in the mail by organizations hoping you'll donate? Do you get them as gifts, and if so, do the givers know what you'll like? I've had people give me calendars I couldn't stand to use.

I have criteria for my calendars: they must be interesting and have the phases of the moon. I like to know what phase the moon is in, but after all these years despite my interest I still can't tell the difference between first and last quarter.

The one I'm using this year is a freebie from my dh's work. It has scenes from Kansas. The picture for November is a glorious sunset behind a windmill. Sometimes we buy calenders from kids doing fund raisers, but I don't like Girl Scout Calendars..I prefer scenery or some sort of theme. For a few years, I bought the one from Arizona Highways since I loved their magazine.

Choosing the right calendar is a tricky task. One has to look at it almost every day, after all. I can't stand landscapes or animals. The sea is out, also. I prefer black and white images of interesting-looking people, or buildings. If I can't find exactly the right calendar then I'll use a plain, tear-off-daily.

I have not bought my calendar for 2006 as yet.

I usually buy something cute like little dogs

I also buy my kids one each as well.
My eldest wants a Lfc one and the youngest wants a charmed one :)

I have not got my 2006 calendar this year yet. I usually get a free one from our local bank. They usually give them out to the customers. The pictures dont usually matter to me cuz i dont normally see the pictures as I put the calendar on my fridge with a magnet clip and the pictures usually are on the back by the time it is hung.

We get free large Pepsi calendars that you can hang or paste onto your desk. I haven't purchased a specialized one for the longest time. I did buy a commemorative Reagan calendar for my room for kids to see around the time of his death. Other than that, I prefer The Far Side cartoon ones, they never get old to me.

I don't really "do" calendars. I never felt the need to buy them. If I REALLY have to remember something then I write it on a scrap of paper kept in place by the madness hamsters fridge magnet!

I LOVE calendars. Right now we have the Healing Mandalas 2005 one. I put colored dots all over it to draw attention to appointments and other things we've got going on. Since I started doing this I haven't missed the Schwan man or a doggie haircut yet! We haven't gotten a calendar for this year yet. I'll get one eventually when I find something that is "perfect". My one law is that I don't get the same thing more than one time. After twelve months anything can get boring, so it's on to a new theme.

I also have a small datebook given to me by my work. I've never been good at using these things, but they give us one every year. I bet if it had a neat and colorful cover that I would be better about it.

I have a calendar on the wall next to my computer. The 2005 calendar is Queensland, a calendar of Aboriginal Art. My 2006 calendar is Lighthouses of Maine. I love the Aboroginal Art except the calendar is too small for my old eyes. :)

The 2005 calander hanging near the phone is a Clay Aiken one put there by my dear younger sister

I have a 2006 calander to hang on my bedroom wall showing scenes from Venice, which was sent to me by my pen pal. Not the most interesting thing, but I'm not overly fussed about calanders. I have a whiteboard hung up in my room to write all important dates and such on.

I really hate getting calendars as gifts, because every gosh darn year I get 3 or 4 as christmas presents... and they're usually cat calendars, a hang over from when I was a kid and adored cats. Sure, I love cats, but after some 20 years of having cat calendars on your wall you get a teensy bit sick of it. It's such a cop-out present as far as I'm concerned. Mind you, any one going to the Louvre and thinking of a gift to bring me back... a calendar of art would be brilliant!

I usually buy a calendar myself when they've got to 50% off, and I like to have something which matches the decor for where it's going. I have 2 calendars in front of me right now - one of Canadian landscapes (beautiful photography) and a desk calendar of Australian wildlife, which is also really nice.

Funny, but the very day this thread began, our neighbor kid showed up at church selling calendars for his basketball team..I found dh buying an Irish calendar for dd#1's Christmas..the first official gift of the season. When I started looking at the list for one for me, he reminded me of all the freebies we'd end up with:rolleyes: Oh well, it's too hard to pick just one anyway!
