Can anyone remember this??

About 15 years ago or more, I read a science fiction novel that I am desperately trying to find. It was in seventh or eighth grade, and mostly about time travel. Twin boys (17 I think) went to live with their grandfather, and discovered a shed in which time was accelerated. It was also a portal to another world, where weird creatures would sometimes come through. One of the twins decided to age himself one year ahead, so he wouldn't be a twin anymore. The author's last name may have begun with A or B, but I'm not sure. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

is this it? Briefly, now, five Sleator books: Singularity is the story of twin brothers who, during a summer tending their late uncle's home, discover that the old man built a shed to enclose a singularity, a place where time flows much faster then normal. The "younger" twin, feeling dominated by his stronger twin, sneaks to the shed one night and lives a full year in complete isolation -- overnight. He emerges the next morning inches taller and, more importantly, much wiser. What makes this novel a masterpiece is the fact that Sleator doesn't gloss over the year of isolation -- we experience it with the narrator, so that we pass through his transformation with him. I can't recommend this novel highly enough -- it's on my list of best all-time works of science fiction. (Books to Look For

That's just awesome!

Wow! Thanks a bunch, you accomplished in 3 minutes what I've been trying to do all day. I'm pretty sure that's it, and I am very grateful.

Glad to help! It sounds interesting, too. Next time you're looking for a book, try Google and type in some key words: I used science fiction twin boys shed (I didn't use + or commas between words). :D
