Cheese

Heh. I'm just sat here watcing my daily dose of informative TV (Richard and Judy) and they're discussing quite frankly, ground moving information. Smiling. And saying 'Cheese'. And how saying 'Cheese' makes you smile. Does saying 'Cheese' actually make anyone smile, cos I can say it with a scowl on my face.

 CHEESE

See??!

I never understood that either. I don't FEEL like I smile when I say cheese. Now you're gonna make me go find a mirror. LOL

My point exactly!

A similar effect could be achieved by stage whispering 'Boobies!'
That might work over there, but over here, you'd get too many phoney abashed faces and fake blushes.

It was originally 'knob cheese', but this was deemed unsuitable for formal occasions such as weddings, and so was abbreviated to the form we now use.

In fact, the tale behind Queen Victoria's comment 'We are not amused' is actually from the time she'd gone to have her photo taken for her new passport and the chap behind the camera had thought her too genteel to say 'knob cheese', and instead ask her to say 'cheese'. Of course, saying cheese failed to make her smile and so she told the little chappy how unamused she was, and promptly had his head chopped off. True story.

Litanys avatar is actually showing a shocking amount of cleavage..

Keen observation. It makes me wonder where she pasted all the hair I so graciously left her?

The double "ee" in cheese does make the corners of my mouth go out a little, but calling it a smile is frankly exaggerating.
