How was that for a hook?

As of right now I have more storage than books so in the upcoming weeks I am planning on doing a massive overhaul with how I organize my books. So to get the ideas flowing about what would work best for me, I did a Google search for 'organizing books' and this site was a hit: Organizing Books for Christian Parents. True, it has nothing to do with ways to organize your home library but look at the title and tell me that's not thread worthy!

So, with that in mind, does anyone have any idea what would make a Christian book on organizing your home different than your regular run-of-the-mill book on home organization that wasn't tied to a particular religion?

Note: I am not suggesting anyone buy this book if you want to clean up the clutter in your home. In fact, I think you should get this one instead: Clear Your Clutter With Feng Shui

Having read a few similar books printed by Christian publishers, I'd venture to guess this book delves into the reasons why we get disorganized and how to overcome those issues. I know people who won't buy a book from a secular press..not trusting "worldly" authors to lead them properly..(Never mind that we're still supposed to weigh the message for ourselves...) I know, it's book about home organization...Common sense should chime in here, but sometimes it isn't so common after all. Another thought: if they can get some big-name Christian leader, say James Dobson.. to endorse the book, they'll sell more too...(Never mind, some Christians think Dobson's full of air...)

Those books will say to burn all that good erotica you've got sitting on the shelves.

Not saranessily FM. This writer assumes she's writing to the church crowd...that stuff wouldn't even be on the radar. Looks like she did some word searches and found verses that related to orderliness and made up some guidelines to apply to this area of life. Not a bad thing of itself.. but one can't get by with just publishing that... one has to embellish and add illustrations, and that's where the book probably gets bogged down.

I had a nice Christian stepmother growing up , and she taught me how to clean.:whistling:

Abc made some good points. I wonder if I could find any guiding principles in Home Organization from Sun Tzu's The Art of War?

Edit: I found one:

Now a soldier's spirit is keenest in the morning;
by noonday it has begun to flag; and in the evening,
his mind is bent only on returning to camp.

Start your organizing in the morning when your mind is clearest and avoid doing it at night when you are fatigued.

I think Abc's answer is spot-on.

Sparky, when we relocated I ended up donating a ton of my books to the library. That solved some of the clutter problem. I rationalized that the library could store the books for me.

Is it ethical to use Jebus to sell a book on tidying up?

Now that is an excellent question! In fact, it deserves a thread all to itself. Take the name of Jesus out of the question and insert any deity of choice, and we can all talk about the ethics of religious marketing...which has been around since man's earliest days.

There was a thread on Etsy on how to run a business along biblical lines. Aside from the increasingly tenuous nature of the scripture being quoted, it didn't seem to me as though Jesus was really all about maximising profit margins.

This would be an interesting conversation :)

No, but the Bible does have a lot to say about money and its management. I too, believe it was never meant to be taken as a formula to make one wealthy. Money is a tool, meant to be kept in perspective and used wisely. I believe there are plenty of warning about avoiding the love of money..ie greed.
