how come at convenient stores the floor is raised behind the counters? Is this to make the clerk seem superior to the customer, to discourage customer rudeness? I've been a clerk before, but we didn't have raised floors behind the counter, so the customers were bold.
..once I was bagging really fast, and the customer thought I was trying to show off, and when I gave him his bag he said "Outstanding" in a sarcastic military voice. I said, "Well, you're an outstanding customer" he got real mad for some reason. Of course, he was a yankee
..once some guy once bought a candy bar, and he was trying to impress his girlfriend by speaking arbitrarily towards me and he said, "Well, this is going right into my belly"
I said, "Then where's it going?"
He said, "uhhh.. You don't wanna hear it."
I said, "I didn't want to hear where it was going in the first place."
I think I impressed his girlfriend by redirecting the arbitration.

If you worked for me, I'd have fired you. But then again, your IQ is entirely too high for me to have hired you in the first place.

Not all convenience stores have raised platforms behind the counters. Those that do have them so that clerks can see over the shelves in the aisles and know when customers are in the store and where they are. It is a safety feature.

yeah, I wasn't sure. It seemed weird to me. I don't know how much more they can see with a Xinch elevation, and they already have those mirrors, but that sounds like a reason still, the safety. still I wonder

seinfeld talks about pharmacy floors raised behind the counter too, in one of his comedy routines.
