About a year or so ago, while looking over my AMEX credit card bill, there was $1.00 finance charge. Because I try not to keep any balances on my credit cards due to my wife's disgust toward bank interest, it was prominent. I called in and inquired of the charge and it turned out to be some "computer error" and they agreed to remove the charge.
Today, it happened again on my Chase visa card. Called in. Asked when my payment posted and and did it incur any late charges, or any other interest. Man on the other end said no, and said the $1.00 finance charge was a "computer error" and agrees to remove the charge.
Few months back, I remember hearing about something like this on NPR. It supposedly happens often. And yet the card companies get away with such errors. Does anyone know which part of the U.S. government where I can report such abuse?
