dark comedies about religion?

i cant describe exactly what im looking for
i wouldnt call it dark humor, but for lack of a better term...

lately i have seen some comedies that has as background religious beliefs, i would like to read similar books

i cant point any books, but can tell what movies i have seen so maybe you can give some recommendation

lies the thing is that i have never read anything similar to those movies, so i cant offer book examples, instead i listed movies similar to what i have in mind, but what im looking for is books

Flowerdk4 yes pretty much, just that monty pyton is not what i have in mind, im talking something a little more "sober" like dogma

Tom Robbins has a bit in his books you might try Another Roadside Attraction,

What if the Second Coming didn't quite come off as advertised? What if "the Corpse" on display in that funky roadside zoo is really who they say it is--what does that portent for the future of western civilization?

I think lies's recommendation of Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman is what you're looking for mr. michel. Full of dark humour. The story centres around a mix-up at the birth of the Anti-Christ.

You might also try The Screwtape Letters by C S Lewis. A good satire, no matter what your religious beliefs. It's a short read, consisting of letters between a devil, Screwtape, and his nephew Wormwood, an up and coming, wannabe successful devil. Screwtape gives his nephew advice at how to win humans over to 'their side'.

i would also recommend tom robbins, but his novel skinny legs and all. here is one of the reviews from amazon:

How hard do you want to work for it? There's Joyce and Rabelais, off the top of my head, but they aren't easy reads.

Personally, I think good blasphemy is becoming harder and harder to find. The last great thing I can recall is Cattelan's La Nona Ora.
