Death Of A President

Has anyone else in the UK just watched Death Of A President?

It was a rather well made mockumentary, the blend of archive footage mixed with acted scenes worked well. It felt, perhaps, a little slow but all in all it told a valid enough chain of events after the assassination of George W. Bush in 2007. The manipulation of the crime by Dick Cheney to pursue his own anti-Syria agenda seemed plausible. The real food for thought, however, came from the mock interviews, where they offered insight into such tactics as media manipulation, dropping mention of al-Qaeda whenever you want to insinuate someone is the bad guy, and showed an interesting depiction of political prisoners in the US.

It will be on Channel 4 soon. Maybe even next week.

It's good at the time, but isn't all that memorable. But it's so damn realistic.

Oh good, I can watch it then. I like realistic, thought provoking political type things, so it sounds like my cup of tea.

I meant to watch this last night, but got caught up in Spooks instead (which I haven't watched in years). Er, plus I was assembling a piece of furniture at the time also...

This sounds like an interesting film, can't wait for it to come out in the states.

Just watched it. I thought it was an interesting movie - it made some pretty good points, and on the whole seemed fairly believable. But still - if it had been a "real" documentary, it wouldn't have been a great one. It's very one-sided, leaving out a lot of viewpoints, and deliberately obscures facts to add drama - even though if it had been real these would be facts that everyone would know about; now, of course, it could be argued that it's partly supposed to criticize the dramatization of documentaries etc. But that annoyed me somewhat. All the same, a pretty good effort. 3/5.
