Der Untergang

Impressive.

That, first and foremost, is what this film is. I literally just saw it, and I just had to write something about it.

I assume you all know this film? If not, a short recap - it's a German film chronicling the last few days of Hitler's life. What makes this film so utterly fascinating is that is shows the night-and-day difference between Adolf Hitler the Fuhrer, and Adolf Hitler the person. It's actually touching to see Hitler crying and laughing in one scene, a scene that sent shivers down my spine.

The gritty realism, the fantastic acting, the almost complete absence of music and, of course, the gripping subject matter, make this film an at times touching and at times gruesome little masterpiece.

Anyone seen this?

Cheers

I liked it, but thought it was a bit overrated. All the raving reviews... No, it wasn't that good, in my opinion.

Hmm, don't read my blog, if you're getting tired of the rave reviews.

I gave it an 8 out of 10.

Cheers

I went to see this film not to long ago. It was great to see a movie daring to display Hitler as a man instead of a monster, and I think they manage it quite brilliantly. I was a bit surprised that I actually felt a bit of sympathy for him sometimes.
You do get the clear impression of a man loosing his mind, ordering armies around he doesn't have and starting to see conspiracies all around. They also manage to display the blind trust some people had in Hitler, still believing in victory although Berlin is being bombed by artillery.

I guess this movie means the beginning of more movies displaying Hitler like this.
