I read about this in Newsweek, but found the article they cited in the WaPo. I'm not certain if I would shell out the money for a book scanner, but undoubtedly, the cost will decrease in the coming years. The only way I would do something like that woudl be if I were taking a flight and wanted a few "books" to bring with me. In that instance, it would be more than worth it. I don't know, I don't believe the publishers have a clue as to what is coming down the road and their copyright fears will certainly increase once it catches on.

It would make ebooks a lot easier to come by, but how many people do you think would actually read them? I can see people reading them blackberries and laptops, but I would hate to read a novel at my computer. If you printed the books out, you'd probably end up spending more on paper and ink than the original.

Books are getting more and more expensive, I can't afford to buy new releases anymore. If this new technology catches on, publishers might be forced to drop their prices... I won't complain about that.
