Discovering New Authors

Do you get a thrill on discovering new authors and looking up and devouring their back-catalogue?! This was the case for me and David Clement Davies, and Mark Chadbourn. And do they always re-deliver or sometimes disappoint? Chadbourn&Davies have always reached new heights.

Absolutely! I have little slips of paper everywhere with book titles and authors I would like to try. If one is great I always check for other titles then watch for new stuff:) What disappoints is when a favorite authors newest book is not on the level of the others.

Completely. I aim to try new authors on a regular basis – at the moment, I'm reading John Banville's The Body of Evidence after reading several posts on a forum praising it greatly. So it's a delight to find that I am enjoying it.

I don't assume that I will enjoy every book by an author that I like – in some ways, it's good to be disappointed every so often: after all, otherwise, how would you really know what you thought were really good?

Isn't finding new authors an adventure? Whether we 'fall in love' with them or not we at least have stretched ourselves a little.

I read that Banville book years ago and thought it brilliant. I hope you continue to enjoy it.
