I want to recommed this book, written by Anderson Cooper.
I've always admired him as a correspondant. Now that I've almost finished his book, my admiration for him has grown and grown.
Even though he had the obvious advantage of being born into a family of tremendous wealth, he really made it all on his own. He never appeared to capitalize on the fact that his mother is Gloria Vanderbuilt, he just went out and did it for himself.
In his early twenties, he tried to get a job as a correspondant but the news biz is tough to break into and could not land the job he wanted.
So, he took his home video camera, made a fake press pass on his MAC, and flew to Asia and Africa (often crossing dangerous borders illegally) to cover the civil wars and strife there, with no support or sponsorship from anybody.
Unbelievable.
Another thing that strikes me is his sincerity, and his, I don't know...his goodness.
The book is well worth reading.

I've requested this from the library. I'm too poor to pay for hardcover (or any books really) these days. :( I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it.
