For what it's worth, I have opened all of the books on my shelves at least once.:whistling:


A similar survey carried out in December for the National Year of Reading Campaign found half of men and one third of woman have lied about what they have read to try and impress friends. The men polled said they would be most impressed by women who read news websites, Shakespeare or song lyrics. Women said men should have read Nelson Mandela's biography or Shakespeare.

There are a lot of books on our shelves my husband has not read yet. This is not entirely his fault though... just ask him, it's mine!:lol: Really,he often asks me to request books he finds in the newspaper, magazines, catalogs, etc...but if there's nothing available, he will either ask me to find him something here, or go hunting for himself...I'll find him a stack of options and usually he picks one. Sometimes though he'll reject them all.. only to find one of them later himself and wonder why I 'hid' it from him all this time:innocent:
Do men read differently than women? Perhaps, but I chalk most of it up to individual differences that have less to do with gender and more to do with personality.
 
I have loads of unread books, and I keep scrupulous track of how many via Library Thing. They are all packed in cartons right now and, stacked two high, the cartons make fabulous end-tables for holding my coffee here at the desk. Should I be ashamed? :cool:
I could decorate them.

Results like these make me wonder just what the hell kind of questions they asked. I don't care how good it is, there's no way a statistically significant group would single out Nelson Mandela's biography from all the millions of books available.

I agree. Everyone reads books differently--no two perspectives are entirely the same, but relating that to the gender of the reader doesn't hold water.

I would think that might depend on what they're trying to accomplish. For instance, if they're going to start a campaign to improve reading in a population and you have limited resources, then they have to determine what segment of the population to focus on.

oh, come on. We don't read books upside down! We read the whole thing all at once like Tralfamadorians. duh!:lol:

I really don't understand the song lyrics bit. Is listening to a song like the same as listneing to audio books?lol?
 
First of all. Check out the picture featured for this article. Who the hell reads right at the ocean? I'd be freaking out that I'd drop my book in the water and ruin it. (I didn't go where you thought I'd go. ^_^)

I know what they mean, but who isn't going to have a bookself full of books they haven't read? Because I totally know tons of people who have read every book ever written. o_O

Thirdly: (Just because I feel like adding this) I have about 10 books around my bed. ^_^

Haven't read every book written (obviously!), but I do read every single book that I buy and thus have read every book on my bookshelves. Otherwise, what's the point of buying them?

Do you always buy one book at a time? Never in bulk? Never for a future read?

I have many books on my shelves because I do buy in bulk, or I find something I want to read sometime in the future. Having many unread books on the shelf gives me a choice, so I pick the book that best fits my mood.

I have no idea what I'll read next. I only know that whatever it is, it's probably on my shelf.
 
I can't remember the last time I bought more than 3 at once, but then again, I've only just recently finished up my degrees so I haven't had much wiggle room financially for a while. Now that I have a real paycheck, maybe I'll start buying books more :)
